Accountancy

Accountancy that keeps you compliant and keeps you informed

Statutory accounts, tax returns and management reporting for UK businesses, delivered by a practice led by an AAT member. Fixed fees, plain English, no surprises at year end.

Financial paperwork with a pen and calculator

You probably need this if

  • Year end is a scramble and the accounts arrive months after the period they describe.
  • You find out what profit you made when the tax bill lands.
  • Your accountant files but never explains, and never calls you first.
  • You suspect you are paying more tax than you need to but nobody has looked.

What good looks like

  • Accounts and returns filed on time, every time, with no penalties.
  • A short monthly or quarterly pack you actually read and act on.
  • A pre-year-end planning conversation, not a post-year-end surprise.
  • Clean, reconciled books that make funding, sale or growth conversations easy.

Who it is for

Owner-managed limited companies, sole traders and partnerships across the UK that want their compliance handled properly and their numbers explained, not just filed.

Compliance done properly

Every business has filing obligations with Companies House and HMRC. We prepare and file statutory accounts, corporation tax returns, self assessment returns and VAT returns on time and to standard, so deadlines stop being a source of stress.

We work from your bookkeeping or ours, reconcile everything before we file, and tell you what the numbers mean before you sign anything.

Management accounts you will actually read

Annual accounts are history. Monthly or quarterly management accounts show you margin, cash and trend while you can still act on them. We build a short, consistent pack around the three or four figures that matter to your business and talk you through it.

  • Profit and loss against budget and prior year
  • Cash position and 13-week cash forecast
  • Debtor and creditor ageing with actions
  • Key ratios specific to your sector

Tax planning within the rules

Salary and dividend mix, timing of capital expenditure, pension contributions, VAT scheme choice and claiming the reliefs you are entitled to. We plan ahead of the year end rather than reporting after it.

The operating rhythm

Run once, properly, every month.

Reconciled weekly, paid on time, reported at month end, filed on the quarter and closed at year end. When the rhythm holds, the numbers are always current and nothing is a surprise.

Questions

Accountancy FAQs

Are you a regulated accountancy practice?

Fortis Business Advisory is led by an AAT member. Our AAT licence application is in progress; we will publish our licence details here once granted. We do not carry out statutory audit work.

Do you work with businesses outside Cornwall?

Yes. We are a national firm. Almost everything is handled through cloud accounting software, video calls and secure document exchange, so location makes no difference to the service.

Which accounting software do you support?

Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage and FreeAgent. If you are not yet on cloud software we will recommend one and migrate you.

How do you charge?

Fixed monthly or annual fees agreed in advance, scoped to what your business actually needs. No hourly billing for routine work.

Talk to us about accountancy.

A thirty-minute conversation, no charge and no pitch. Tell us where the business is and where you want it to be, and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
